WASHINGTON - U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are scheduled to meet Sunday at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida as part of an effort to finalize a U.S.-led peace plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, U.S. and Ukrainian officials said.

The meeting follows days of negotiations between officials from Washington and Kyiv on a revised 20-point framework intended to halt the fighting and outline security guarantees and post-war arrangements. Ukrainian officials said progress has been made on several elements, though significant differences remain, particularly over territorial issues in eastern Ukraine.

Zelensky said he believes key unresolved matters can be addressed directly at the presidential level and expressed hope that meaningful progress could be achieved before the end of the year. He said issues such as territory would require direct engagement with Trump to move talks forward.

The planned discussions come after Zelensky held meetings earlier in the week with Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and with Jared Kushner. Ukrainian officials described those talks as constructive and said they helped narrow gaps on parts of the proposal.

The U.S.-backed initiative has developed from earlier peace efforts and remains dependent on acceptance by Washington, Kyiv, and Moscow. While negotiators have aligned on several points, Ukraine and Russia continue to hold sharply different positions on regions currently controlled by Russian forces. Russia has not publicly responded to the latest version of the framework.

Officials described the Mar-a-Lago meeting as a critical step in diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire and broader settlement as the conflict approaches its fourth year.
